The Real, meaning 'royal, was first introduced by Portugese settlers and became Brazil's official currency in 1690. It was not sub-divided in smaller units. The modern real (plural reais) was introduced on July 1, 1994.
The Lithuanian litas (plural litai or litų) is the currency of Lithuania. It is divided into 100 centų. Currently the litas is pegged to the euro at the rate of 3.4528 to 1. It is expected that the litas will be replaced by the euro by 2013.
